comment on "India does not shine when only some gleam" article by Arun Maira

Arun Maira, the author of the article in the Hindu (31.03.2021) “India does not shine when only some gleam,” has raised an important question  i.e., “what is the score board of progress against which India will report “ when we celebrate in 2022 the 75th anniversary of India’s’ independence  . Are we going to celebrate the poorest ranks for India in Global Hunger Index, the Happiness Index, and the Air and Water quality Index? When all our reforms are aimed at benefiting the well off sections completely ignoring, the basic needs of the marginalized  sections widening beyond imagination the gaps between them, with what sense of achievement   we can glorify our misdirected reforms? European nations may not be ranking high in GDP growth rate but, their citizens live calm, peaceful, happy and secured lives due to equal opportunities and just and fair treatment to everyone. The bottom 20% of the population  of India  are not going to be happy about the grand announcement about the goal of  #5 trillion economy that would benefit the top 10 % of the population when,  joblessness , homelessness , fuel prices, inflation and hunger  are causing,  so much of agony to their family members . Nor are they going to accept the Karma theory and blame fate for their miseries. They know what all atrocities are committed against the poor  in the name of structural reforms .When will India direct its reform process aiming better Human Development Index along with economic progress ?
