While I agree with most of
the points highlighted by Shahana Munazir in her article, “ Inclusive lessons” (23.11.17) I differ on one point . Census 2011 data
reveals to what extent the Muslim women are lagging behind in the social, economic.,
legal and political spheres than women in other communities of India . Political
empowerment should be preceded by social and economic empowerment . The
concentration should be primarily, on
higher education and income earning capacity . To day Muslim women belonging to deprived sections are unable join the main stream of society and
enjoy inclusiveness due innumerable hurdles on the path of higher education, skill training and ability
to earn decent income either through self employment or jobs . While
higher education gives them , knowledge, exposure to outside world and confidence , independent income
gives them , the courage , inner strength
to face challenges of life, ways to better their standard of living and to
command dignified living . All these
qualities will move them naturally towards political empowerment in the next
stage. Hence ,urgent efforts are needed towards elimination of hurdles in the
way of social and economic empowerment
of Muslim women for inclusiveness. After all ,empowerment is the result
of evolution and not revolution .
