Basic qualification for journalists
Justice Markanda Kadju’s
suggestion for formal qualification for journalist has sparked a healthy
discussion as his other observations on different matters have done. This
suggestion is in a way good, because the journalist can come into the
profession with basic knowledge and confidence in reporting and can improve
their skill in reporting though their experience, wisdom and their own
capacities instead of wasting their time in learning through trail and error
methods. The time thus saved can be used for developing professionalism and
expertise in their chosen field of activity. Formal training in any field will
not go a waste. But it should not be made compulsory for entering into
journalism field .
