The declaration of National Health Policy is a step
in the right direction , but the policy’s
suggestion to increase the government ‘s
spending on health sector to 2.5 % is inadequate to rectify the existing gaps
in health sector are very correct . Converting the “dysfunctional heath care
system” of India is a mighty and highly challenging task .How
can the 2.5% allotment of fund will help in filling the gaps in the three “M”s viz., Man power, Material
and Money which have made the health care system a non performing one? India
needs higher percentage of fund allotment for health sector since health is an essential component of human
resource development . If we thinly distribute the allotted fund on various requirements, we will fail again
in achieving the goals of National Health Policy -1915 as we have miserably
failed in achieving the goal of Health
For All by 2000 AD.
